Who can be considered for Parole under Uniting for Ukraine?

Refugees eligible for this program must:

  • Reside in Ukraine as of February 11, 2022;
  • Have a valid Ukrainian passport or be an immediate non-Ukrainian family member:
  • Have a sponsor who has filed Form I-134 which has been confirmed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
  • Can pass health and security screenings to receive permission to travel to the United States

How long does the process take?

The DHS website does not provide a timeline for completion. Due to the current surge of requests, application processing time may take up to three months.

Will the refugee be able to work after arrival in the United States?

Effective November 21, 2022, a Ukrainian refugee approved under the Uniting for Ukraine program  does not need employment authorization to start working in the United States.  One’s unexpired Form-94, Arrival/Departure Record, with a class of admission (CAO) of UHP is an acceptable document to permit the beneficiary to get a job while waiting for an official work permit.

How long can the refugee stay in the U.S. under Uniting for Ukraine?

Uniting for Ukraine gives the beneficiary the right to enter the United States and stay temporarily for a two-year period.

What type of support does the beneficiary get from the sponsor?

Sponsors may agree to provide you with housing and necessary groceries until you are able to support yourself. If the sponsor chooses not to assist with housing and other support, the sponsor will only be confirmed by USCIS as a Paper Sponsor. In such a situation, the program beneficiary must already have a place to live in the United States.
